Orthodontic Treatment

What is an orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatments help straighten teeth and fix bite problems. They are done by orthodontists, and some general dentists also provide them. Children, teenagers, and adults can have these treatments.

When do I need orthodontic treatment?
You may need it if you have crooked teeth, a bad bite, misaligned jaws, crowded teeth, gaps or missing teeth, or different teeth on each side. It also helps with speaking, breathing, or chewing problems. Orthodontists can check children’s developing teeth and help manage thumb or finger-sucking habits.
How long does orthodontic treatment take? Treatment usually lasts 1 to 3 years with regular check-ups. Each visit takes 30–60 minutes. After braces, you may need a retainer to keep teeth in place. The retainer can be worn at night or all the time, depending on your orthodontist’s advice.
